If you're looking to get your hair off your face but still want to look classy for a nice occasion, there are easy tricks to hide your bobby pins and give your do some oomph.
First, put some wave in your hair or straighten the ends, whatever gets your juices flowing. My hair is thinner than shit so I usually opt for the wave. Based on the previous statement, I also tease the crown of my hair. If you don't know how to tease your hair...oh honey. Just pull up a section, spray the roots with hair spray or dry shampoo and back comb. Start at the root and run your comb through your hair the opposite of what feels normal so you will be going toward your root. For some reason short fast strokes help...or maybe I just get excited for volume and work my comb faster. Your hair will start to stand on its own. That's how you know you're legit.
Don't brush it out or even attempt to, you'll cry. Just smooth it back with your hands and pull up the sides to get your half-up, half-down look. Next, twist your collected pony once or twice loosely. Keep an eagle eye on what's happening up front. If your newly formed bump looks deflated, you're pulling it too tight. The key is to have a loose grip. After it's twisted put in one bobby pin coming from the right side, diagonally heading down. This bobby pin will disappear when you put in the second one. The second one should come from the left side and cross over the first bobby pin heading diagonally down making an X with the bobby pins. Spread out the hair secured between the pins to cover them.
The teasing of your hair and added volume help hide your metal. I also think the waves or curls work better than straight hair if you're trying to pull off a wonder woman. Another trick is to get bobby pins that match the color of your hair. It's hard to hide a black bobby in white blonde hair.
