If you have split or very dry ends…well you need a haircut. If you’re emotionally attached to every centimeter like I am, or you don’t have the extra funds for a cut, here are a few things that work on my hair. Give it a shot on yours or let me know what worked better for you in the comments. Again, these are things that work on MY hair type. I’m not a professional, I’ve just made a lot of beauty mistakes in my day.
Ok, so I’m sure you’re seen a ton of those weird ass concoctions to moisturize your hair, make it shiny, make it grow blah blah. I’ve always just ended up with the same hair but it smelled like beer, vinegar or whatever random crap the recipe told me to throw on it from my fridge. I’m sorry but I just can’t justify putting mayonnaise in my hair. Sandwich yes…head…no. There are few beauty tricks I won’t try but I have to draw the line somewhere.
Less gross and smelly options I have found are listed below. I have oily roots with dry/damaged ends and shaft. (still giggled, it’s still funny) I am a huge fan of repairing my hair overnight. It allows me to put some deep conditioning on it and giving it time to do its thing. When I’m sleeping, I’m not dicking with it.
1. Vitamin E oil. You can get this at any drug store in the vitamin isle. It’s a small liquid bottle. You can use it on your skin if that’s dry too. I mix it in with my regular moisturizer year round. I’m a sun baby so my skin needs the extra vitamins in the summer and I’m an ashy mess in the winter so it’s worth the few dollars. When I use it on my hair, I put it on at night before bed. I use about a quarter size amount because my hair is long and run it through the ends and shaft ONLY. I brush through it and apply more if needed. Then I put it in a bun on the top of my head so it doesn’t get on my pillow. Don’t pile it on, this isn’t a contest. If you have really thick hair, you might want to try wetting it first so it distributes better. In the morning, rinse it out with warm water or just shampoo as normal.
2. Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Now I know I said I don’t put nasty shit in my hair but this one works so well that I just don’t smell my mane before securing it in the overnight bun. EVOO evidently has a ton of vitamins in it that work well to heal damaged hair. If you want specifics, Google it. I do the same routine with this as the Vitamin E oil but I try not to shampoo this one. I just rinse it so it can be styled. I like the extra healing power during the day. If you don't have a bottle at home and don't want to buy one, just ask for a packet at Panera with your pick 2 next time.
3. Moroccan oil. This shit is pricey but absolutely worth it. If it doesn’t work for your hair type, by all means, return it but it works great for mine. I have the light version and the regular. I use the regular at night because it’s heavier and I don’t care if it weighs down my locks because I’m just going to wash it in the morning. If you have textured or thick hair, you should be fine to use the regular during the day, just don’t put on a fuck ton and go nuts. I have fine/thin hair so I use the light and it’s the perfect strength.
